With a population of just under 1,300 residents, the community of Rock Port is located adjacent to Interstate 29 in northwest Missouri, within an hour drive north to the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, and an hour south to St. Joseph, Missouri. The Rock Port R-II School District educates over 350 students and is made up of the towns of Rock Port, Watson, Langdon, and Phelps City. Rock Port is the county seat of Atchison County and was the first city in the nation to be fully energy self-sufficient due to regional utility investments with wind power. Rock Port R-II is the third largest employer in the county, ranking only behind Community Hospital of Fairfax and Advanced Pork Producers.
Rock Port R-II has received numerous awards over the past six years, including the Elementary earning National Blue Ribbon recognition in 2017 and PLTW Distinguished School awards in 2019 and 2021. In addition, the district was the MARE Outstanding Rural School District recipient for the 2022-2023 school year. The district has outstanding facilities that continue to be a focus of future improvements and implemented a four-day school week during the 22-23 school year. The Blue Jays are a member of the Highway 275 Conference and have an outstanding tradition of excellence in both athletics and activities.
